RID Committee of Experts
The RID Committee of Experts is an organ of OTIF. All the Member States of OTIF may send representatives to sessions of the Committee. Non Member States and international organisations and associations are also invited by the Secretariat. Only States Parties to Appendix C to COTIF are entitled to vote.
The RID Committee of Experts takes decisions on proposals to amend Appendix C to COTIF, i.e. amendments to the Regulation concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Rail (RID) and its annex.
Unlike OTIF’s other Committees, the RID Committee of Experts takes decisions to amend RID without requiring approval by the General Assembly. These amendments relating to the carriage of dangerous goods are therefore adopted more quickly in order to take account of developments and technical progress.
Twice a year, OTIF and the Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) organise an RID/ADR/ADN Joint Meeting, which ensures simple multimodal transport for dangerous goods by rail, road and inland waterways.
The RID Committee of Experts approves the decisions of the RID/ADR/ADN Joint Meeting and takes decisions on amendments that only concern rail transport.
All the decisions of the RID Committee of Experts are prepared by its standing working group.
