The IOM Switzerland Coordination Office started operations in 1994 with the signing of an MoU with the Swiss Department of Justice and Police (FDJP) (https://switzerland.iom.int)

In 2024, the IOM Chief of Mission (Coordination Office for Switzerland and Liechtenstein) attended the “first stone” ceremony for the renovation work on the OTIF building. In August 2025, the OTIF Secretariat moved back into the renovated OTIF headquarters building. Following reorganisation of the workspaces, the third floor of the building became vacant. At that moment, IOM and OTIF started negotiations to explore a shared services approach to reduce costs and improve efficiency.

As a result, from 27 April 2026, the OTIF Secretariat and IOM Switzerland will share the same address.
