Autumn session of the Joint Meeting

26-08-2025

The Joint Meeting of the RID Committee of Experts and the UNECE Working Party on the Transport of Dangerous Goods will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 17 to 25 September 2025.

At this autumn session, the Joint Meeting will deal mainly with proposed amendments to the 2027 editions of the Regulation concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Rail (RID), the Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR) and the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Inland Waterways (ADN).

The session will focus on harmonising RID/ADR/ADN with the 24th revised edition of the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods.

In addition to examining new proposals, the Joint Meeting is also expected to take a final decision on the transport of used articles, machinery and devices containing  residues of dangerous goods which cannot be disposed of prior to transport. In addition, it could conclude a lengthy discussion aimed at exempting from the requirements of RID/ADR/ADN the delivery to private individuals of consumer products by a retailer or carrier.

In parallel with the Joint Meeting, the working group on tanks will meet to carry out a preliminary review of a number of documents concerning tanks, as mandated by the Joint Meeting.

The decisions taken by the Joint Meeting should come into force on 1 January 2027. Final adaptations may still be decided for the 2027 editions of RID, ADR and ADN at the session in March 2026.

The RID/ADR/ADN Joint Meeting is jointly organised twice a year by the Secretariat of OTIF and the UNECE Transport Division. Its aim is to harmonise the provisions for the land transport of dangerous goods (rail, road, inland waterways). In order to achieve this, it examines amendments emanating in particular from the UN Model Regulations and amendments that are specific to land transport.
