The 2023 edition of the Regulation concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Rail (RID) is now available on OTIF’s website in Russian.
RID was already published in the Organisation’s three working languages (German, English and French) before. It contains more than 1000 pages of provisions that apply to the international carriage of dangerous goods by rail between the 45 existing RID Contracting States in Europe, Asia and North Africa.
RID also serves as the basis for Annex 2 to the Agreement concerning International Goods Traffic by Rail (SMGS) published by the Organisation for the Cooperation of Railways (OSJD), which applies in East Europe and Asia. Since 2012, efforts have been made to harmonise RID and SMGS Annex 2 more closely in order to facilitate the carriage of dangerous goods by rail between these two legal regimes. The Russian translation of RID has great significance in terms of the efforts towards harmonisation and it considerably facilitates the application of RID in many countries in Asia and East Europe.
